SAINT AGNES CHURCH Iglesia de Santa Inés
Weiser, Idaho
LETTER FROM THE PASTOR Friday, May 22, 2020
This coming Sunday, May 24
th, is the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord.
Let us pray:
Gladden us with holy joy, almighty God, and make us rejoice with devout thanksgiving, for the Ascension of Christ your Son is our exultation, and, where the Head has gone before in glory, the Bod is called to follow in hope. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen (
Roman Missal, Collect, Ascension of the Lord).
LATEST NEWS: I need to inform you that earlier this week I was contacted by the Southwest District Health Office and was informed that a person who had tested positive for the COVID #19 had attended services in St. Agnes Church on Sunday, May 17
th. The Health Office reviewed with me the precautions that have been implemented here at St. Agnes Church the past several weeks—cleaning and sanitizing of the church, practice of social distancing at the services, the permission to wear face masks, and removal of hymnals. The Health Office encouraged me to continue these practices at St. Agnes.
Also, this past week, Deacon Ignacio Cornejo, Lety Saldivar, the parish secretary, and I have each undergone the corona virus testing, and each of us has tested negative.
I thank those who have attended Mass over the past 3 weeks for being so attentive to the necessary social distancing; numbers have worn face masks. Also, thanks go to Deacon Ignacio and Maria Cornejo, and their son Angel, for the thorough cleaning and sanitizing of the church each Saturday morning. The evening of the day the Health Office contact me, the church was again sanitized.
I wanted you to be informed. This coming weekend, May 23
rd and 24
th, there will be the regular schedule of weekend Masses here at St. Agnes (and also Holy Rosary in Cambridge, 3:30 p.m.). I am confident each of you will make the best decision for you and your family about attending one of the Masses are not. At each Mass we will unite our voices with that of our Lord in Glory in praise and supplication for our entire parish community.
MEMORIAL DAY is this coming Monday, May 25
th. Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. in St. Agnes Church for those who through the past two centuries have given their lives in service and defense of our nation and our freedom and rights. Enjoy a safe and healthy holiday!
